Poliform represents some of Italy’s most respected designers and exists for those looking for design without compromise. To create functional and timeless furniture, Poliform collaborates with some of the world’s most innovative designers and architects, including Marcel Wanders, Carlo Colombo, Vincent Van Duysen and Paolo Piva. We spoke to Poliform design consultant John Ling about the lasting benefits of well-designed furniture.
A well-designed wardrobe can truly enhance a living space. What is Poliform’s view on this and what are some of the most important things to consider when selecting wardrobe joinery?
Top-quality joinery, such as a luxurious wardrobe, enhances and indeed completes a living space. Things to consider when selecting this kind of furniture include the quality and how long it will last, aesthetically as well as materially. Poliform’s philosophy is to make furniture that remains in style for a lifetime or longer.
What Poliform products will be featured at George and Powlett?
Working with Powell & Glenn, we selected Graffiti wardrobes by Carlo Colombo. Carlo is a highly regarded designer who has won Elle Décor’s International Design Award four times; he is also something of an unofficial ambassador for Italian design and spends much of his time giving lectures and presenting at conferences around the world.
Minimalist yet confident, the Graffiti wardrobes are distinctive in a number of ways. One immediately apparent feature is the textured laminate doors, which are exclusive to Poliform. The horizontal grain lends a luxe texture, but also provides a high-performance, durable finish.
What are some of the key design features of these wardrobes?
Along with the textured finish, the internal structures are also quintessentially Poliform. Uniquely solid shelving, meaning the structure will never bow, is coupled with mechanisms and a design experience that will bring lasting satisfaction to its users. Soft-closing doors and drawers, and high-degree finishes, make everyday interactions a pleasure and a luxury.
Why did this particular design suit the George and Powlett project?
Powell & Glenn, and indeed ICON, were looking for a luxurious product suitable for these prestigious apartments. They wanted to provide a point of difference and something that was not only of the highest quality but also completely timeless.
What level of customisation in the wardrobes is available to purchasers of these residences?
Poliform wardrobes are highly customisable by nature. The products are able to be tailored for every space and for customer preference. Powell & Glenn has selected three different colour and handle options for the external finishes, and five different internal finish options from the Carlo Colombo Graffiti range to suit the George & Powlett interior palette.
The internal configurations are also highly flexible. Each shelf and hanging rail can be moved into multiple positions and configurations. The wardrobe can be retrofitted with drawers, shelving and storage units, creating functional compartments for shoes and accessories such as jewellery, ties and belts. Details can also be customised and adapted regularly as an owner’s needs change.
